BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

CHEN Gang, a professor and a doctoral supervisor researching in the field of sedimentary basin dynamics and its petroleum systems. He was born in Henan Province in 1965.05, China; and received his B.Sc. (1988.07) and M.Sc. (1991.07) in petroleum geology & exploration, and his Ph.D. (1994.07) in petroliferous basin geology, all from Northwest University (NWU), Xi’an, P. R. China. Since 1994, he has been employed as a research geologist (1994.07~1997.11), associate professor (1998.12~2004.11) and full professor (2004.12 ~) & Ph.D. supervisor (2006.05 ~) at the geological department of NWU, working on the geology of petroliferous basins and the petroleum system, as well as the quantitative geo-science and the reservoir description. Also, from 2001.08 to 2003.12, he had carried out a postdoctoral research at the National Postdoctoral Workstation of Shengli Oilfield Company Ltd SINOPEC, attached to the National Postdoctoral Program of Geology at NWU; and from 2009.02 to 2010.02, He was awarded by China Scholarship Council as an academic visitor to work with Prof. Philip A. Allen’s group investigating the functioning of sediment routing systems and the 2-way coupling between the deformation of thrust-related anticlines and the drainage of transverse rivers in the foreland fold-thrust belt. Since the 9th Five-Year Plan of China, he has chaired and completed 3 projects sponsored by the national basic research program of China, 4 projects sponsored by China Scholarship Council and the state Education Ministry of China, and over 10 projects sponsored respectively by nature science basic research program of Shaanxi Province and the oilfield companies of China. Over the last 10 years, he has published more than 40 academic papers in scientific journals, and cooperatively received 8 awards from the National Education Ministry, Shaanxi Provincial Government and Shengli Oilfield Company of China for his patents in petroliferous basin geodynamics, quantitative thermo-chronology, tectono-thermal history and petroleum evaluation.
