QU Hong-Jun

1. The basic situation

Qu Hongjun, professor, male, was born in May 1967, graduated from Department of Geology, China Northwest University in 1988, Received M.Sc. and Ph.D. at China Northwest University in 1995 and 2003 respectively, been trained and did research work in Sri Lanka as a visiting scholar under the grant of China National Scholarship Council from 1997 to 1988, did postdoctoral research in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences between 2004 and 2006, mainly engaged in research works on sedimentology and energy geology, Presided and undertook more than 20 research tasks or projects of national, provincial and horizontal cooperational, including two tasks of China Grand National Science & Technology Specific Projects and one project of China National Natural Science Fund. Being main achievements on sedimentology and hydrocarbon accumulation geology, he conducted depth study on sedimentology and oil & gas distribution and accumulation rules in Ordos basin and the earth’s deep water areas, achieved fruitful results as establishing global deep-water oil & gas geology database, Publishing over 30 papers regarding to these results in China National core journals such as Acta Geologica Sinica, Acta petrolei Sinica, Geological Review, Acta Sedimentologica Sinica, Oil & Gas Geology, Marine Geology & Quaternary Geology, Geological Bulletin of China, Chinese Geology, Journal of Palaeogeography, Journal of Northwest University, Geological Science and Technology Information, Marine Geology Letters, Marine Geology Frontiers, Marine Origin Petroleum Geology, Lithologic Reservoirs, Journal of Central South University and so on. Got a first prize of Higher Education Science & Technology Award of Shaanxi Province and a third prize of Science & Technology Award of Shaanxi Province. In terms of teaching, mainly undertakes sedimentary petrology course and the National Excellent Courses of geological field teaching in Ordos Basin-Qinling orogenic belt for undergraduates for Base class, lithofacies palaeogeography, sedimentology Principles courses for Graduates.

2. Main research areas and research orientation

1) Applications of the principles and methods of sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy to the study of the coupling relationship between mountains and basins, by means of the studies of the four influencing factors in controlling sedimentary sequence including tectonic uplift, sea level changes, provenance supply and paleoclimate, to invert tectonic and sedimentary history, to conduct basin analysis and to study of the coupling relationship between mountains and basins.

2) Applications of the principles and methods of sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy to the study of exploration and development of oil and gas, to carry out isochronic stratigraphic division and correlation, prediction for facies zones and palaeogeographic reconstruction effectively, and predict for system tracts and distribution of favorable source-reservoir-cap rock assemblages,  focusing on the studies of reservoir sedimentology and hydrocarbon accumulation geology.

3. Teaching courses

Main teaching courses include sedimentary petrology, field geology teaching of Ordos Basin-Qinling orogenic belt which is national Excellent course for undergraduate of base class, and sedimentary facies and palaeogeography for Graduate students. In addition, courses including sedimentary environment and facies, sequence stratigraphy, and gem and jade identification and so on, are teached in the post.

4. Research projects

Undertaking or having undertaken a number of national, provincial and horizontal cooperational projects or tasks which are as follows:

1) Analogue of Eopaloezoic contour current deposits at south and west margin of Huabei block and its geological meaning, from 2012 to 2015, supported by the National Natural Science Fund(approval number being 41172101).

2) Distribution of large reef and bank flat and analysis of hydrocarbon accumulation condition in deep-water area of northern South China Sea, from 2011 to 2015, task of China Grand National Science & Technology Specific Projects of the twelfth five-year(task number being 2011ZX05025-06-02).

3) Petroleum geological comprehensive study in Liutuanzhuang-Zhangyuanpan area, from 2011 to 2012, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd(project number being ycsy2011-C-02).

4) Exploration potential of Chang 7 deep lake facies in exploration area of south of Ordos Basin from 2011 to 2012, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd(project number being ycsy2011ky-B-76).

5) Study on mechanism of oil and gas accumulation in deep zones of Yanchang Formation in the middle of Ordos Basin in 2011, supported by research institute of Yanchang Petroleum(group)Co., Ltd.

6) Comprehensive evaluation of Yan 436 well, from 2010 to 2011, supported by oil and gas exploration company of Yanchang Oil FieldCo., Ltd.

7) Analogueing between foreign Oil and Gas enriched areas and deep-water areas of South China Sea and establishing global deep-water oil & gas geology database, from 2008 to 2010, task of China Grand National Science & Technology Specific Projects of the eleventh five-year project(task number being 2008ZX05025-06-05).

8) Research of petroleum exploration in world’s deep-water basins and analogical evaluation between world’s deep-water basins and deep-water areas of South China Sea, from 2008 to 2009, supported by the key scientific and technological project of China National Offshore OilCo., Ltd., during the eleventh five-year project.

9) Tectonic paleogeographic evolution, coupling relationship between mountains and basins, and their controls on hydrocarbon accumulation in northern upper Yangtze plate from 2008 to 2009, the third task of major marine project which supported by Southern SINOPEC(task number being YPH08001-03).

10) Basic geology and reservoir characterization in Hezhuang area of Huaziping, Ansai Oilfield in 2009, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd.

11) Accumulation controlling factors of gas and well location optimization technology in the Upper Paleozoic in Yanchang oil region in 2008, supported by research institute of Yanchang Petroleum(group)Co., Ltd.

12) Exploration potential of lower composite of Yanchang Formation of Upper Triassic in Wuding area in 2009, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd.

13) The sedimentary microfacies and reservoir of Chang 6 formation in Meita area, Ansai Oilfield in 2007, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd.

14) Comprehensive evaluation of reservoir and facies study in Baliangou-Jinzhuang area, Nanniwan Oilfield in 2007, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd.

15) Basic geology study in Fanxue area, Dingbian Oilfield in 2007, supported by Yanchang Oil Field Co., Ltd.

16) Evaluation of Chang 6 reservoir in Sai-202 well areas, Pingqiao Oilfield in 2005, supported by researchinstituteofPCOC.

17) The study on sedimentary systems and sequence stratigraphy of middle-lower Jurassic system in northernShaanxiregion from 2003 to 2005, Specific research project the Shaanxi Education bureau.
