Course Description

Structural Geology is a basic undergraduate course emphasizing the study of processes and products of rock deformation. This course introduces the techniques of structural geology through a survey of the mechanics of rock deformation, a survey of the features and geometries of faults and folds, and techniques of strain analysis. It covers the basics of structural geology including fault, fold, joint, foliation and lineation, and the research methods and idea of modern structural geology. Class lectures are supplemented by class exercises and demonstrations as well as field trips to local outcrops. The primary goal of the course is to help students build a variety of skills and a suit of tempo-spatial geological thinking.
