Course Descriptions for Isotope geochemistry

Course Title Isotope geochemistry

Credits 2

Hours 36

Course Description

Isotope geochemistry has become one of the most important fields in the Earth sciences as well as in geochemistry, which is a new discipline involving chemistry, physics, mass spectrometry, new experimental techniques as well as geology. It has two broad subdivisions: radiogenic isotope geochemistry and stable isotope geochemistry.
Isotope geochemistry focuses on the following three aspects: 1) the early application including determining the abundance of isotopes in nature to constrain models of the nucleus nature and models of nucleosynthesis (the origin of the elements); 2) the most important application remaining geochronology and cosmochronology: the determination of the timing of events in the history of the Earth and the Solar System; 3) it serves as tracers to explore geological and environmental processes.
