Course Description

Crystal Crystallography is one of the geological curriculum which explores optical phenomena and laws of transparent minerals by visible light using polarizing microscope. The course consists of two parts: crystal cystallography and optical mineralogy. The former focuses on basic optical theory and principles of optical phenomena for transparent crystals, and the latter describes systematically optical characteristics of transparent minerals under transmitted light.
It is the fundamental and most important content in geology science that studies the substance, origin, formation and evolution law of the earth. It is a key research area in geology that aims to find out the distribution of mineral resources in the world, environment evolution and change, relationship between human activities and ecological environment. Crystal Crystallography is one of the basic means widely used in studying and identifying the major material composition—rock forming minerals in geology field. The Optical Crystallography and Optical Mineralogy is an essential required professional course for undergraduate students of geology and is also the basic geological knowledge for all geologists.
